Horseback riding through the Gorges of Tiberius
Horseback riding up to the Gorges of Tiberius, the canyon of the river Pollina, in the Madonie, a Regional Park of extreme beauty and natural richness. We can descend the river in a rubber boat, between natural pools, plays of light and local legends.
Horseback riding experience through the Gorges of Tiberius, the Sicilian canyon, ten kilometers from the mouth of the river Pollina. This excursion is suitable for anyone and crosses the land of rare beauty in the eastern Madonie Regional Park. Although this area represents only a small percentage of Sicily, this Park includes the richest geo-diversity in the central Mediterranean. On horseback, through woods of cork oaks, holm oaks, hundred-year-old olive trees, manna ashwood, and Mediterranean scrub heather, lentisks, broom, and arbutus, we reach the gorges in a few hours. Here the river Pollina narrows among the limestone gorges shaped by the water, to form a suggestive place. Once kept the horses in the shade of the trees of a large citrus grove, we could descend the river by rubber boats (€10.00 extra), and enjoy the beautiful plays of sunlight that, reflected in the water, creates special effects. Weather permitting, we could stop for a swim and sunbathe at a natural pool. We will enjoy a picnic after visiting the gorges, and we will leave the park in the afternoon.
