Every year, classical plays are staged at the Greek Theater in Siracusa. The event is organized by INDA (Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico, i.e. National Institute of Ancient Drama). In fact, INDA has scheduled three plays for the 2021 season, with the comeback of two artists and a new one.

You will be able to watch the Bacchae by Euripides, Coephori and Eumenides by Aeschylus, and the Clouds by Aristophanes.

The comeback of two big directors

Two big directors come back to the Greek Theater, as they already lighted up the stage with their art.

Firstly, the master Antonio Calenda will direct the play The Clouds by the big Aristophanes.

Secondly, another awaited comeback is the one of Davide Livermore, who is one of the most loved directors at the moment. He has already directed Helena by Euripides during the 2019 season, and he comes back to Siracusa with a play by Aeschylus, Coephori and Emenides, the second and third act of Oresteia. This play is realized in collaboration with the Theater of Genova in order to commemorate the anniversary of the revival of the event after the Great War and the Spanish Flu.

A great debut

Among the directors in this season, there is also a debut. Carlus Padrissa will direct the Bacchae by Euripides.

Carlus Padrissa is Catalan, as well as one of the founders of Fura dels Baus, which is a company whose aim is to rewrite the language of contemporary theater.
