The Vendicari Natural Reserve is one of the last humid zones of South-East Sicily, which makes it the best place for migration fluxes of birds. From Africa, they go back and forth to North Europe in autumn and spring.
It's a paradise for water birds, as the water welcomes a big number of coots, real swans, flamingos and other beautiful birds.
Mammals and turtles
Among the mammals in the reserve, there are foxes, hedgehogs, and the wild rabbit. After more than 20 years since they were seen the last time, loggerhead turtles have come back: an important signal, that confirms that Vendicari is a safe and protected territory.
