"Festino" of Santa Rosalìa in Palermo
395th Festino of Saint Rosalìa, the Patrone Saint of Palermo. A traditional and historical procession mixing religion and folklore.
Santa Rosalia, the Patrone Saint of Palermo is celebrated each 14th and 15th July. Her legend rises in 1624, the year in which Rosalia hunts the plague out of Palermo. After her death, the Palermitans found her bones in a cave on the top of the Mount Pellegrino. The Festino begins on the 10th of July, but the main part of the festivity is the 14th and 15th July, where the Santa Rosalia's procession parades in the streets from the Royal Palace to Piazza Marina.
