The Papyrus in Siracusa

In Siracusa you can find a museum entirely dedicated to papyrus.

This special museum tells the story of the conservation and the legends bound to this vegetal species which has a very long history of use by humans.

The Museum promotes lots of activities such as the recovery of artifacts and documentation on the use of papyrus among different cultures and populations; its research activity contributed to find a solution to many questions ranging from the origin of the papyrus to the protection of the papyrus of the Ciane river (Siracusa).

And also from the valorisation of the historical traditions linked to papyrus, to the studies on ancient manufacturing techniques, to the treatment and conservation of papyrus documents.

These are the times at which you can visit the museum:
From May to September: from Tuesday to Saturday: 10.00 / 19.00;

Sundays and public holidays: 10.30 / 14.00.

From October to April: Tuesday to Sunday: 9.30 / 14.00.
