Palazzo dei Normanni is the oldest royal palace in Europe, where the Sicilian royal family used to live. It represents the city's pride since it is an example of extraordinary architecture and the interiors are really precious, such as the Cappella Palatina, the Torre Pisana, the room of King Ruggero and the room of Hercules. Nowadays the headquarters of the Sicilian Regional Assembly is in Palazzo dei Normanni: the first convocation was held in 1130 by King Ruggero II d'Altavilla. It is one of the oldest legislative bodies in the world, which witnesses a period when Sicily used to rule the Mediterranean area.
