Valentine's Day on the Ligurian Riviera

Riviera di Levante

On Valentine’s day many things can be missed, but one is fundamental: a good location. Liguria is the perfect destination for spending this day immersed in pure romanticism. In particular, the Riviera di Levante is made of unspoiled beaches and villages with colorful houses sheer on the sea.

In this article you will find some ideas to surprise your sweetheart in a Ligurian town.

Camogli

This city is the symbol of delicacy and romanticism, thanks to the wonderful landscape it offers. Since the 80s, on Valentine’s Day, there has been an initiative called “Innamorati a Camogli”, which involves the whole city. Streets are decorated with flowers and hearts, as well as poetry written by people in love. Furthermore, from San Rocco di Camogli you can admire a spectacular sunset, as the sky is lit up in shades of red.

Portofino

One of the most romantic destinations ever, Portofino has seen many love stories, such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, as well as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. The geographical position of this village gives it a romantic atmosphere: a little bay with colorful houses enclosed in hills full of plants and flowers, which are reflected in the turquoise water. In Portofino there is always a path called “Passo del Bacio” which uncoils along the hills around the city, giving a wonderful view from above of the bay. The name comes from a popular legend that tells two lovers who couldn’t live their love together decided to run away through that path.

And by the way, here’s a music suggestion for your trip to Portofino.
Lastly, you can also take a Nature Walk from Santa Margherita Ligure to Portofino Lighthouse with your sweetheart.

Sestri Levante

In this town there is a promontory that faces two coves called “Baia del Silenzio” (Bay of the Silence) and “Baia delle Favole” (Bay of the fairytales). There are many colorful houses here too, which are reflected in the water creating a wonderful show. Apart from walking on the beach and enjoying the sea in winter, you can also have an excursion to Punta Mara, from which you can admire the wonderful view on the promontory.

Cinque Terre

Which destination could be more romantic than Cinque Terre? Those five fishing villages are the reincarnation of romanticism: they all have in common colorful houses overhanging the sea full of ships as well as vineyards. Furthermore, between the town of Manarola and Riomaggiore there is a street called “Via dell’Amore”. It is a path excavated in the rock of the coastline: walking here with your sweet half is an unforgettable experience, you can kiss with the sun setting on the sea in the background.
