In 1860, when the penal code was extended to the whole of Italy, the art. 425 wasn't introduced, as it punished same-sex relationships and homosexuality was rooted in the Neapolitan culture.
During the Four Days of Napoli of Italian Resistance, the "Femminielli", Neapolitan gays dressed like women, went to the squares with weapons in order to fight Nazi soldiers with partisans.
In 2019, an investment of 100.000€ has been approved for projects promoting inclusion of LGBTQ+ people and fighting discrimination, especially in work environments. These events prove how Napoli has always been an open-minded city.
Here you'll find a guide of the association and LGBTQ+ groups in Napoli.
