Torino is connected to the “Via Lattea”, the French-Italian ski resort, headquarter of some famous winter destinations. The city also hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 2006, confirming its connection with the winter resorts.

Bardonecchia

Bardonecchia is the furthest westwards Italian town, and one of the most famous ski destinations in Italy. It’s well connected with Torino, you can reach it in an hour and a half by train. Bardonecchia is perfect for relaxing and admiring the surrounding valleys: this town is located in a basin where four valleys merge, offering a breathtaking view and 100km of ski slope.

Sestrière

This village is so small that it doesn’t even count a thousand inhabitants, but it is the highest village in Italy, as it reaches 2000 meters above sea level. Sestrière is a very famous destination for Piedmont inhabitants since it offers many activities for its visitors. Furthermore, this village is also easily accessible by train from Torino, because it’s on the same line of the train to Bardonecchia.

Sauze d’Oulx

Easily reachable by train from Torino, Sauze d’Oulx is a village of the so-called Via Lattea. It is also referred to as “the balcony of the Alps”, thanks to its geographical position: it offers a wonderful view on the mountains and the valley.

Courmayeur

Even though Courmayeur is in the Aosta Valley and it’s a bit further than the previous villages, it’s still a popular destination among the Piedmontese people. It is near the Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps and the second highest in Europe, after the Elbrus. Courmayeur borders France, which is linked by a tunnel under Mont Blanc.

Limone Piemonte

Limone Piemonte is a ski destination in the province of Cuneo, and it is considered one of the snowiest of the peninsula. You can easily reach it by train and for this reason, it was one of the first ski resorts in the Alps in 1900. Nowadays it’s a popular destination among Turinese, also because there are thermae, which offer the possibility to relax after a day on the slopes.

Prato Nevoso

This place is in the province of Cuneo and it often has sunny weather, which is the reason why it’s so popular. Ski slopes are mainly for beginners and the difficulty level is low medium: it’s the ideal destination for a family trip.
