Lake Como offers some of the most picturesque urban, landscape, and architectural gems on the Italian peninsula. Among these treasures, Como stands out as the capital and principal urban center of the lake’s western branch. It attracts international tourism with its enchanting natural scenery and is an industrial hub based on the silk trade. Como is a beautiful, elegant, romantic, and meticulously maintained city, surrounded by medieval walls that enclose the historic center with cobbled streets and magnificent squares. The lakeside is exceptionally elegant, featuring several 18th-century villas and the Voltian Temple. Among the most fascinating aspects of the city are the charming villas, renowned worldwide for their grandeur and meticulously manicured gardens. Notable examples include Villa Olmo, an exquisite specimen of neoclassical architecture hosting major exhibitions, and “La Rotonda,” a villa built at the end of the 18th century that houses the Provincial Administration. Near the lakeside lies the city’s main square, dominated by the Broletto—the ancient municipal palace built in 1215—which also hosts the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most captivating examples of Italian Gothic art. Finally, a visit to the village of Brunate, accessible by cable car and a city symbol, is highly recommended for its breathtaking views of Liberty-style residences.
The accommodation is a 45-minute drive from Milan Malpensa Airport and a 5-minute walk from Como train station.
