Bologna, known as the Learned city being the seat of the oldest University in the West, the Fat city for its gastronomic and wine excellences and the Red city for the colour that characterises the historic centre, is a marvellous city of art, culture and commerce. Its soul resides in the medieval historic centre which is among the most extensive in Europe and rich in taverns, shops and theatres, characterised by almost 40 km of arcades. In the historic centre you will find Piazza Maggiore where the charm of medieval palaces combines perfectly with modernity. Not to be missed are Giambologna's Fountain of Neptune and the Medieval Towers, the Asinelli Tower and the Garisenda Tower, part of a rich cultural heritage preserved in numerous museums, galleries and religious buildings.
