A historic city in the far northwest of Sardinia and a renowned tourist center, Alghero boasts a fascinating history intertwined with Catalan, Aragonese and Spanish dominations. Its historic center, surrounded by mighty medieval walls, is a treasure trove of Catalan architecture set in a maze of alleys. Alghero is famous for coral, which in local manufacturing art is combined with gold in a happy artistic combination. Not to be missed is the Coral Museum, which reveals its history and forms. For lovers of the sea and relaxing vacations, the best-known beaches are the Bombarde, the Lazzaretto, made up of ten coves with clear, fine sand, and the calming Mugoni beach. Much of the coast is protected by the marine area of Capo Caccia - Isola Piana, where hundreds of treasures are kept, including Neptune's cave, which can be reached by land, via the Escala del Cabirol, and by sea, with boats leaving from the marina. Finally, Alghero's gastronomy is a triumph of Mediterranean flavors. Don't miss the Catalan-style fish soup, the Algherese paella with lobster and seafood, and porceddu. All accompanied by a good glass of Vermentino di Alghero, a DOC white wine with a fruity and mineral taste.
Alghero airport is 16 minutes from the accommodation, while for people travelling to Sardinia by ship, Porto Torres is 36 minutes away.
