Palermo Pride 2022 will take place on Saturday, July 9th in the streets of the city center. The event in support of LGBTQ+ rights will make the city colorful with its wave of inclusivity and acceptance. It is organized by Coordinamento Palermo Pride, an association of 24 city organizations that contribute to it every year.

The theme of Palermo Pride 2022

This year, the slogan of Palermo Pride 2022 will be "Neither lands nor bodies are objects of conquest", to underline the relationship between war practices and violent discrimination toward LGBTQ+ people. A current issue in today's society, with direct reference to what is happening nowadays in the world.

The fight for LGBTQ+ rights does not exclude anyone, which is why Pride is important, especially in Sicily where it's against the mafia as well. So, the preservation of every one's life is what makes the event important and what is at the basis of it.

The patron

The patron of Palermo Pride 2022 will be Beppe Fiorello. He recently ended his first experience as a film director with "Stranizza d'Amuri", a movie that talks about a story of homophobia, the murder of Giarre. This homicide of two gay boys in the 80s led to the formation of Arcigay and the Italian gay liberation movement.

Fiorello feels flattered and comments:

"Taking part in this event is an important activity to support human rights, especially in those times when physical distance is becoming more virtual. I immediately accepted the invitation to find people physically again. In this case, I take part in it, because I also want to know, understand, and live a new experience to fight for human rights. I hope that those rights will be recognized in order to safeguard everyone's life.

Palermo Pride 2022's anthem will be "Diva" by La Rappresentante di Lista, a group that has always been on the front line for LGBTQ+ rights.

The Parade

Pride parade will start from Foro Italico and cross Porta Felice. It will stretch til Villa Filippina, crossing Via Roma and Via Pignatelli Aragona. In the villa, Palermo Pride Suona will take place, the artistic heart of Palermo Pride, with artists performing on July 8th and 9th.

Among those, La Rappresentante di Lista, Karma B, and Immanuel Casto will perform and entertain the participants.
